Main Page | Residential | Commercial CASE HISTORY New York Coffee Co., Manama, Bahrain The Project: When Bruce Milletto of Bellissimo, Inc. asked KJL Interior Design to do the design work on an upscale coffee house in Manama, Bahrain, they jumped at the opportunity. The challenge of completing an international project particularly one in a Middle Eastern country was, of course, alluring. It would also force KJL to hone computer skills, as the bulk of the project was to be done through the internet. Organization would also be important. With a very savvy client on the Bahrain end, the project pulled together gracefully. The concept was already forged by Bellissimo, Inc., using the company logo (New York Coffee) and expanding upon it. Many of the design specifications were items that were unheard of or untried in Bahrain (e.g., color-stained, scored concrete flooring, burled maple veneer cabinetry, faux finish wall treatments and so forth). Through combined effort and internet research, all necessary formulas and materials were obtained to complete the project to the specifications. Add to the mix custom lighting, draperies and tables with custom logo tops all shipped by container from various parts of the world and the result is a fresh, urbane local hangout. The Future: KJL is currently helping to develop the expansion into the exterior garden area. Once all plans have been approved (drawn and submitted from Eugene, Oregon), the owners will use exterior lighting, a misting/cooling system (absolutely necessary at all times in Manama) and moveable dividers to create a verdant eating area for their patrons. The owners are so excited by the project, that they are already plotting the next N.Y. Coffee location . . . |
