CASE HISTORY Pollock Residence:
The
Problem: With their highly classical taste in design, the Pollocks
wondered how they would ever turn their 1970's "Tudor" into
a house they could call home. The house had a lot of square footage,
but lacked any individual character or architectural detail.
The Solution: Enter Kathy LaMontagne with KJL Interior Design.
Communication was quick and efficient and they knew they were on the
same wavelength immediately. The Pollocks and KJL worked as a team to
conceive the new scheme. KJL provided samples, color chips, molding details,
etc. When it was all decided, KJL created proposals with itemized costs
for the Pollock's review and acceptance. This way, there were no surprises.
The
Project: Throughout the entire process, KJL Interior Design helped
supervise the work being done and made any changes as needed (in conjunction
with client and contractor). Structural changes were few, but significant.
The large kitchen was opened up to the Family room area nearby and
updated - new granite slab countertops, lighting, wallcovering, painted
cabinets, hardware, etc. All dark stained 2" moldings of the period
were replaced with 6" wide painted moldings; new built-ins as
needed, etc. Both fireplaces were remodeled to reflect the Pollocks
more formal taste - more generous, opulent mantels with feature lighting
and marble surrounds. New hardwood floors throughout; crown moldings
added. New window treatments, wallcoverings/paint, light fixtures and
signature furniture completed the transformation. This took an immense
amount of pressure off the Pollocks during the remodeling process.
While they took an active interest in the process, they weren't forced
to make snap decisions on the spot or panic over things that hadn't
been done. It was all determined in advance.
The Result: Through organization, experience and a terrific working
relationship, the Pollocks now have a house they love to come home to.
